Clown Knife Fish (Chitala ornata)

The Clown Knife Fish is a stunning and prehistoric-looking predator from Southeast Asia. With its elongated, blade-like body, distinctive spotted pattern, and rippling anal fin, this fish is a true showpiece for large predator tanks. Nocturnal and intelligent, Clown Knives develop strong personalities and can even be hand-fed over time.

Care Requirements

• Tank size: Minimum 500L for adults — Clown Knives grow to 90cm+
• Water temperature: 24–28°C (tropical)
• pH: 6.0–7.5
• Filtration: Heavy biological filtration with good water movement
• Diet: Carnivore — live or frozen fish, prawns, earthworms, large pellets
• Compatibility: Keep with large, robust fish only — will eat anything that fits in its mouth
• Lighting: Prefers dim lighting — provide caves and hiding spots
• Difficulty: Advanced — requires a very large, well-maintained setup
